leaving the volcano

Well, today we leave the volcano area to journey to San José. We'll stop on the way in the arts and crafts area and then go to the capital. Tomorrow we leave for Texas.

lava flows

Well, we did not see bright red lava flows, only because it is daylight. We did hear several minor eruptions while hiking up and saw the smoke of the rocks as they were spewn out of the volcano. Really cool.

Arenal

We are about to go hiking around Arenal Volcano this morning. It is a bit cloudy, but we are hoping to be able to see when we get a bit more up in the altitude.
The Panama Canal was really cool. We saw a huge Panamax ship going through. It had less than two feet clearance on each side of the ship.
The ocean was dark blue--really pretty.

At Arenal

We have had many awesome days in Panama and Costa Rica. We have been to the beach, been on a houseboat in the Caribbean around Panama, white water rafting and zip lining in Costa Rica. We had a great time jumping into the Caribbean off of the houseboat. The white water rafting and zip lining was terrific. I actually did the zip lining even though I am scared of heights. I also jumped off the boat. We have had no internet connection so this is our first time to write anything. Off to dinner, more later.
